Culture in Zaragoza

Zaragoza is a city where no one feels an outsider and where boredom is banned! Its heritage and charmful streets and alleys come together with a varied and vast cultural offer in every season. Concerts, festivals, dance, urban art, cutting-edge technology, works of great artists such as Goya, Pablo Gargallo or Pablo Serrano, in addition to the liveliness of its streets, its markets, endless appetizers and countless activities to do with family or friends… Here are some of the reasons why Zaragoza should appear in your list of cultural ‘must-see’ this year!

Rhythm and music

Concert in Pablo Serrano IAACCMusic is part of Zaragoza’s DNA. Amaral, Bunbury and Kase O are some of the names that the Aragonese capital has brought to the national and international music scene. It is a city whose cultural agenda is full of concerts (many of them free) which take place in theatres or even bars or museums terraces in summer, for instance on the Pablo Serrano Museum terrace.

All music, classic or contemporary, has its place in Zaragoza, and so do the music festivals. We give you an example of an original appointment that will delight everyone: the Festival Slap!, focused on black music and dance, which kicks off the summer season every year at the campsite in Zaragoza.

Non-stop exhibitions

Zaragoza has more than one dozen museums and different exhibition halls. This way, we can enjoy a varied calendar of temporary exhibitions all year through, showing works by local, national and international artists, in addition to the permanent exhibitions.

Discover the brilliance of our international artists such as Francisco de Goya, Pablo Gargallo and Pablo Serrano, or the great temporary exhibitions shown in the Centro de Historias, Caixa Forum cultural and social centre or La Lonja, among others.

If you come with your family, the Origami Museum and the Fire and Firefighters Museum will delight the kids!

And the streets are the best scenery…

The cultural proposals also take the streets, and the city vibrates to the rhythm of dance, theatre, circus and music all the year round!

Zirco festivalThe beginning of the urban activities is marked by the Carnival in February, an event that fills with joy the streets of Zaragoza. Then sunny days come and proposals are of the most various; we will name a few of them. The festival Zirco unfolds all the magic of circus, traditional or risky, in the whole city. The festival of contemporary dance Trayectos in June connects dance and spectators in different public places and uses the architectural elements of the city as stage. In September, the international festival of urban art Asalto colours the city at the hand of the most distinguished streetart artists.

Not to mention the event which offers the most complete and varied program of the year: the Fiestas del Pilar. A celebration that takes place annually 9 days around October 12th. It is universal and open to everyone and unites tradition and modernity: outdoors concerts, massive or intimate, folklore and rock bands, parades, street theater… in addition to the traditional acts that flood the streets such that the famous offering of flowers to the Virgin on October 12th.

EtopiaNew trends are also dominate the cultural agenda

Etopia is a multidisciplinary experimentation laboratory that offers activities throughout the year that range from art to performance, ecology, science, virtual reality, 3D printing, avant-garde music or video games. Another interesting project is Harinera ZGZ, a new space reclaimed for residents in San José district in a restored factory. Its goal is to bring culture to neighbourhoods and to give the management of the place to the community. Many activities are offered and everything is done from the participatory perspective.
