Do you like crime novels or film noir? Lucky you if you are in Zaragoza, for it has just started the fifth edition of this literary genre festival: the Festival Aragón Negro (FAN).

From 16th to 31st January, more than 200 acts will be organized throughout the region, many of them in the city of Zaragoza.

This festival was born in 2014 as a literary meeting focused on police novels. Since then, it has evolved into a multidisciplinary festival, gathering film, comics, theatre, photography and even gastronomy! In addition to thrillers and the classic detective novels now other genres have their space too, such as fantasy, horror, science-fiction and historical narrative.

Festival Aragón NegroAmong the events planned in Zaragoza, you can attend literary presentations of major national and international authors, poetic creation workshops, film screenings, lectures and discussions… The Aragon Negro Festival offers numerous activities to please the curiosity of every kind of public; even children will have their own amusing workshops full of mistery.

The Aragonese Contemporary Art and Culture Institute, IAACC Pablo Serrano, hosts the HNegra” exhibition, which shows 22 stories and illustrations of detective genre defending and praising female figures of these stories.

If you feel adventurous, on January 21st there is a Geocaching session in the cemetery of Zaragoza: “El caso del asesino del sello“. It consists of a game of orientation and inventiveness during which you will have to find a series murderer before he attacks again by receiving hints in order to locate him by GPS.

To keep yourself up-to-date of everything that happens during the festival you can follow the TV channel #FANTV via the web or Youtube, with exclusive content: articles, interviews, summaries of events and many other subjects.

Gastronomy occupies an important place during the event. 41 establishments are involved in the festival to offer the best of their cuisine, 25 of them in the Aragonese capital. Among the participants, you will find restaurants with one star in the Michelin guide, and you can also buy gourmet products.

All the gastronomic creations will be inspired by crime literature. For example, the tapa that made famous one of the most popular Spanish detectives, Pepe Carvalho, or the menu offered by another restaurant of the capital inspired by Alfred Hitchcock. Those are some of the “criminal proposals” among many others!
