Culture in Christtmas

Last week we wrote about the leisure activities to celebrate the Christmas holidays that you can find until 7th January.

Zaragoza has also prepared a full agenda of cultural events. You can enjoy many concerts, musicals, theatre plays, live music, workshops, magic, dance, among many others. You’ll be spoilt for choice! More information on the City Hall of Zaragoza Christmas web site.

Today we want to share with you two interesting cultural initiatives, which will also take place during the holidays:

Libros que importan (« books precious to you »)

Culture in ChristmasThis activity consists of a massive exchange of books in a public space: it will be held from 26th until 30th December on the Pilar square in Zaragoza.

This initiative is designed to promote reading and to make Zaragoza a reference in the matter by fun and original activities! It was really well received last year, for nearly 8,000 people offered 2,000 books.

The process is simple: you donate a book, but not just any book. It has to be a book that is important to you: either because it has been a source of inspiration in your life or decisive for any reason, or because this book was the first one you read or the first one that moved you…, in short, a book that is precious to you. You have to pack it in paper gift and add a dedication where you can explain why it means so much to you. Once you’ve offered your book you will be given randomly another one. Thus you will provide literature to a stranger and he will do the same. A beautiful present to share culture in Christmas!

Cuentos al viento (« stories to the wind »)

Culture in Christmas

23th December at noon on the Pilar square there will be a very special release of balloons, as at each balloon a poem is attached, so it will cross the skies towards an unknown destination!

This is an initiative of Atrapavientos, an agency specialized in literature for children and young people which organizes activities to promote the habit of reading and writing.

From September to December, with the help of the City Hall of Zaragoza, Atrapavientos has organized a series of workshops of creative writing in several educational centres as well as in other areas of the city. This activity, open to everybody, brought together many participants and boosted reading and writing in group: happily many people took an interest in literature. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Gloria Fuertes, Madrid poetess and writer.

On 23th December, each participant at these workshops will receive a balloon filled with helium to attach his poem. The wind will take care of the rest 😉 Lots of balloons and poems will get lost and won’t survive the journey, but others will arrive to new readers. Following the instructions left with the poem they can contact Atrapavientos to tell how and where the surprise was discovered and write a little text about themselves in return.

Join us in spreading the culture in Christmas!
