What to see at the Expo area?

Posted August 18, 2017 by zaragozaturismo in Zaragoza today

Visiting Zaragoza means walking around Plaza del Pilar, tasting some tapas in El Tubo or enjoying a visit to the Aljaferia Palace. But since a few years, those who come to Zaragoza don´t hesitate to meet the modern zone of the city, located at the other side of the River Ebro: the Expo area.

The international exhibition held in 2008 was a before and an after in Zaragoza. The left bank of the Ebro was filled with modern and avant-garde buildings, much of them persist today. Buildings that, as we already told you in a previous post, brands and advertising agencies have not overlooked throughout these years.

Now that you know what we’re talking about maybe you ask yourself… what can I see in the Expo area? Below we list you some of the things you can do at the Expo area:

– Visit the River Aquarium. The largest river Aquarium in Europe!
The Europe’s largest River Aquarium is located in Zaragoza. Along its various rooms you will see different species from the Ebro, Mekong, Amazon, Nile and Murray-Darling rivers. The five continents represented in a same space. The time will fly seeing crocodiles, turtles, otters…!

Also, you can enjoy our special promotion of Tourist Bus or Megabus + Aquarium for only 13 €, on sale at our tourism offices. You can find more information here

– Discover the Bridge Pavilion
Until October 31st you can visit one of the iconic buildings of the Expo, the Pavilion Bridge, designed by Zaha Hadid. His work, which symbolizes a giant gladiolus, communicates the right bank of the River with the Expo area, and is a must if you’re a fan of architecture. Check our website to know the opening hours.

Other emblems of the Expo 2008 are buildings like the Water Tower, the Aragon Pavilion and the Pavilion of Spain. If you want to know more about them, click here.

– Enjoy the Water Park Luis Buñuel
Right in front of the Expo area you will find the biggest green area of the city: the Water Park Luis Buñuel. An ideal place to enjoy a relaxing walk on foot or by bike, as you prefer, in a beautiful natural environment.

This area is ideal for families because of the activities that you can enjoy there (see more information on the website www.parquedelagua.com). If you prefer to lie in the sun or take a dip, you can go to the beaches of Costa Chica. Because in Zaragoza you can also find a beach! 😉

– Photography lover? This is your site!
If you don´t travel without your Reflex or you usually fill the memory of your iPhone with photographs of each travel, this is your place! Because in the Expo and the area of the Water Park you can make photos that will delight your followers of Instagram. Here are some examples 😉

Getting to the Expo area from the city center is very easy: you can take the tramway to the Actur district and get off at Pablo Neruda or Adolfo Aznar stops (will take you 15 minutes from the city center and once you down you only will have to walk about 10 minutes). Another option is arriving with the Tourist Bus, which also includes a stop inside the Expo area (near the Aquarium), runs along the inside of the Water Park, so if you don’t have much time and you want a quick ride to see the area, this is your best option. Other lines of buses as the Ci1, Ci2 and 23 also will carry you to the Expo area from the center. See more information here.
