One of the activities considered a ‘must’ in Zaragoza for locals and visitors is going out for tapas: experience the best of the miniature cuisine of the city of Zaragoza through the streets, especially lively in the evening, going in and out of different restaurants… you can’t miss the tastiest side of Zaragoza!

In the Old Town, the historical and most artistic part of the city, the most traditional tapas areas are:

– El Tubo
This is one of the best-known and emblematic tapas areas in the city. It has a special charm with its narrow streets (Estebanes, Libertad…) full of people. Numerous bars offering delicious tapas, varied menus and a fantastic environment during all year.

If you prefer enjoying sitting the different typical products of our gastronomy and of other regions, accompanied by a wine or a beer from Aragon, go to Puerta Cinegia Gastronómica. A gastronomy market in the heart of Zaragoza which offers a whole host of options in the same space. A different concept of eating tapas in Zaragoza.

Santa Marta Square

If you walk through the Arco del Dean –next to la Seo Cathedral– you will come out into a small square, Santa Marta, plenty of traditional tapas bars. From here you can head over to San Pedro Nolasco Square, after crossing over calle Mayor, where you will find modern venues alongside some of the city`s classics.

Heroismo and La Magdalena area
These more alternative areas, located near the tourist attractions, are also great to enjoy traditional food. If you choose this option, be sure to check out the Mudejar Tower (part of the the Magdalena Church). Moreover, every Thursday different bars in the Heroismo and La Magdalena districts offer a tapa and a beverage for only 2 euros. This activity, known as Juepincho, attracts many young people each week.

San Miguel area
Another interesting tapas area is around San Miguel Church, where you can find a mixture between traditional establishments and the more avant-garde establishments in and around the Plaza de los Sitios.

As well as these central areas, numerous bars offering good tapas can be found throughout the rest of the city. More information: Bars and Cafes Association

This association organize every year, around November, the Tapas contest of Zaragoza, the oldest gastromy contest and a pioneer in Spain. If you come to Zaragoza around this date, you have to try it!
