From today and during all month of May, Zaragoza becomes the capital of the circus thanks to an initiative that will bring together the different activities that are done around this art.

Zirco. Circus Arts gather together for 5 weeks the more traditional circus disciplines, such as juggling, aerial, tightrope walking and acrobatics, with demonstrations of the most contemporary circus tendencies, also including dance, theatre or magic. Institutions and local talent groups that have been working the art of the circus in the city, get together now to offer their shows, where will be equally present artists and companies from Spain and abroad.

More than 100 acts, almost all free access, configure this wide circus program that takes place mostly outdoors, in parks and open areas in the city. They are complemented by an exhibition of the Aragonese photographers Isabel Aparicio and Mai Ibergüen (“circus in an instant”), music, and film screenings (from the silent film by Tod Browning, passing through the classic adventures of Henry Hathaway, to finish with a personal vision of Federico Fellini) and on 1st June a show named D’Click Isla at Teatro de las Esquinas.  A large number of activities for the whole family!

Moreover, from 8 to 12 May and within the programme on Europe Day, six schools will carry out an educational project in order to practice at the same time languages and juggling. The show entitled “Malabares en Fransuá y Spanglis ” will take place in these schools, as well as in the hospitals of the city and the Fundación Laboral de la construcción.

Entrepayasos, the Social circus school, the jugglers Association of Zaragoza (AMZ) along with the City Hall have prepared this programme with the collaboration of civic centers, the Association of neighbors the Rabal, Filmoteca de Zaragoza, the PICH (Integral Plan for Historic Center) and the Education Service of the city of Zaragoza

The 11th meeting of clowns will take place this month. Since 2007, this meeting of artists has been taking place in Zaragoza and has created a space for people attracted by the world of the clown in order to meet, laugh and exchange ideas.

Different artists and companies from other countries (Argentina, Mexico, Italy) and Spain (Zaragoza, Burgos, Alicante, Barcelona, Logroño, Basque country) have prepared workshops, street performances, evening galas, and lots of laughs that will fill the historic center of red noses, juggling and very good mood.

Circo de siempre

The activities of the weekend of 6 and 7 May will be dedicated to two of the best-known shows of the traditional circus: the tightrope walking and the clowns of always.

Asociación de Malabaristas de Zaragoza (AMZ)

The AMZ is addressed to young people starting out in juggling, or any other circus discipline (acrobatics, tightrope walking, etc.), or people who want to improve their qualities as street artists or clown.

Escuela de Circo Social

When we talk about Social circus we are referring to the articulation of the circus arts with social sciences. The Social circus school aims to open a space for meeting and coexistence, training and information through the circus arts

The Social circus offers many disciplines (juggling, acrobats, clowns, magic, etc.), so that everyone can find the most suitable art to his own talent, celebrates the ordinary, the difference and be special. Rather than compete with each other, different disciplines and skills can combine and produce a unique show and a new kind of experience for the audience. Social circus can be a useful mean for all kinds of groups, regardless of the age of the participants, sex, origin, need for personal assistance or social origin.

Circo Contemporáneo

This is done in collaboration with the civic centers of the city. These activities will show the latest trends in national and/or European productions and will be displayed in various civic centres of the city. It will culminate with the European circus Gala, which will take place at the Teatro Principal on May 27 from 20, 30 h.

Come and laugh in Zaragoza !!
