This year, Holy Week will take place from 8 to 16 April. This is one of the major events of the year and Zaragoza is experiencing a large influx of visitors during these days.

This year, the image chosen to promote Holy Week is that of the brotherhood of the exaltation of the Holy Cross, from the Nieves-Casablanca district of Zaragoza.

The image is the work of photographer Alberto Olmo. Appears a member of the brotherhood playing the bass drum, which distinguishes this celebration from other Spanish cities. In the background, one appreciates the outer wall of the parroquieta of La Seo, which is one of the best examples of Aragonese Mudejar art (declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

The priest of the parish of Santa Gema and chaplain of the Brotherhood of the exaltation of the Holy Cross, Luis Marcos, will be the person in charge of delivering the inaugural address of Holy Week on Saturday, April 8th.

From next week until Holy Week, the Council of Brotherhoods will organize various cultural activities within the cultural space of The Corte Inglés:

7 March: 7 pm – Four hundred years of documented history of the procession of the Holy Burial. Projection of the video “We are more than what your eyes see”.

Festivity of International Tourist Interest

The Holy Week of Zaragoza was declared a Festivity of International Tourist Interest in 2014. Its 700 years of history, its 53 processions and more than 15.000 members make it a national and international reference for religious tourism. It is also a singular celebration among all those organized in Spain.

The sound of the Holy Week of Saragossa is unique, this one is produced by the 4.000 drums and big crates that parade through the streets and accompany the processions. Another singularity is the procession of the Holy Burial, the longest and oldest in Spain, which gathers all the brotherhoods and forms the greatest concentration of drums and bass drums.
