Pilar-as-a-pantheonOn November the 2nd, Zaragoza Turismo organized a lot of activities related to All Saints’ Day, under the name of “Regala Zaragoza Misteriosa”. Locals and visitors had the chance to discover the Basílica del Pilar in a different way. The Basilica was also the place where distinguished people were buried.

During the guided tour “Basílica del Pilar as a Pantheon” the visitors enjoyed this special tour through the chapels, including the most important sepulchers and the Crypt of the Holy Chapel. The Crypt is located under the chapel of the Virgin.Crypt-Basilica-Pilar

You can only visit the Crypt two days during the whole year, 1st and 2nd November. The Crypt is the hidden place of the Basilica where you can find the graves of distinguished Aragoneses as General Palafox, a hero during Los Sitios de Zaragoza, or Ramón Pignatelli, known as the builder of the initial works of Canal Imperial de Aragón. As a curiosity, the remains of Agustina de Aragón were kept here before they were moved to the Portillo Church. Agustina was also a heroine of Los Sitios de Zaragoza.

The Crypt has also the graves of the citizens who made possible the construction of the last two towers of the Basílica del Pilar, Francisco Urzáiz and her wife Leonor Sala, among others.

If you are in Zaragoza next year, you can not miss the opportunity to visit the Crypt!

From the 3rd to the 8th of December a new edition of Regala Zaragoza is coming back with a lot of activities for the whole family. Christmas will be the main theme. Here you have more information about Regala Navidad en Familia.
