Goya Museum, Zaragoza (Spain)

The Goya Museum reopened its doors a few months ago after a reorganization of its funds. In addition, it has also changed its name to highlight more the figure of the Aragonese painter Francisco de Goya, internationally renowned. These changes have created a space that should not be missed on a visit to Zaragoza.

This museum belongs to Ibercaja and has a total of 300 works among which is the complete collection of engravings by Goya, and works of another Aragonese artists from various eras.

The museum has now a chronological organization for the permanent exhibition. So, on the ground floor there is a panel with a painting depicting how Zaragoza was at the time that Goya lived; here we can also visit the temporary exhibitions. On the first floor there are works of the XV-XVII centuries, on the second are the Goya works, and on the third floor different works from the XIX-XX centuries.

In addition to the rooms, in the basement you can see part of Caesaraugusta’s Roman remains and an audiovisual of Goya (one for adults and another for children). The museum also offers two types of guided tours, which are adapted to the type of group: ‘the 15 essentials’, in which the main works that comprise the museum are visited; and visits to the different temporary exhibitions that take place there. They have tours for previously arranged groups too and for individual visitors they can provide you audio guides and tablets with explanations of all the museum (about 5 hours approximately) in Spanish, English and French. The cost for the use of the audioguide or tablet is appart from the entrance ticket.
