Next week, from May the 18th to 22nd, Zaragoza will host the sixth International Meeting of Experts of the SPICE project of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The former meetings were held in Brussels (Belgium), Boulder (Colorado-USA), Davos (Switzerland), Sodankyla (Lapland-Finland) and Geneva (Switzerland).

AEMET declares that it’s an honor for the city of Zaragoza to have been chosen for this event as it put Zaragoza on the map as a city at the forefront of the meteorology and measurement instrumentation worlwide.

The SPICE project aims to measure precipitation as snow thanks to the data generated from 15 countries using the most advanced and common instrumentation in different and representative climatic conditions of cold or alpine climates.

During the winter of 2013-2014 AEMET launched the testing in Formigal-Sarrios (Huesca) installing reference meteorological instrumentation in its simplest form. Thanks to this, numerous data were compiled for a further analysis by the various working groups, during weekly video conferences and meetings of the SPICE project where AEMET also participate.

Last winter, AEMET continued to participate in similar actions with exclusive infrastructures as DFIR (Double Fence International Reference) that are only available in Switzerland (MeteoSwiss), Finland (IMF), Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute), Canada (Environment Canada), USA (NOAA-NCAR), Russia (Roshydromet), South Korea (Korea Meteorological Administration) and Japan (Japan Meteorological Agency).
