The Holy Week: Festival of International Tourist Interest

The Holy Week of Zaragoza is a religious celebration that is backed by more than seven hundred year’s history, with deep support of the people.

With their impeccable processions, year after year, the Cofradías, Hermandades (brotherhoods and fraternities) and Congregations of Zaragoza renew the historical legacy they have inherited. Thus, with their musical accompaniments, the most outstanding being the sound of the drums and bass drums, their processional heritage and the Holy images, some of with are real works of art, they provide a considerable artistic, cultural and folkloric value to the celebration, converting Holy Week into an important tourist attraction.

semana santa 2015That is why, in 1995, The Holy Week of Zaragoza was declared Festival of Tourist Interest in Aragon, and later on, in 2011, Festival of International Tourist Interest, which represents an acknowledgement of cultural values and popular traditions, with special consideration to its ethnological characteristics and its special importance as a tourist attraction.
